Arcadia Police Department confirms that James Allen Beck was a former police officer with the City of Arcadia. He is a suspect named as responsible in the death of Deputy Jake Kuredjian of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.
Assemblywoman Carol Liu has garnered more local endorsements in her first bid for elective office before Arcadia voters. Gary Kovacic, Mickey Segal, Maryann Gibson, and Annie Yuen endorse Liu, who wants to get tough on child pornographers.
Assemblywoman Carol Liu has moved her campaign headquarters to 921 S. Baldwin Avenue, Unit D, in her bid for re-election in the 44th Assembly District. Liu's district stretches from LaCanada to Duarte, including all of Pasadena, and Eagle Rock in Los Angeles.

A panel discussion chaired by Assembly member Carol Liu, D-Pasadena, addressing the issue of Asian gang activity, was held in Arcadia City Council Chambers on Wednesday, November 14. It was a fact finding hearing intending to develop legislative and community oriented solutions to Asian organized crime in California.
Arcadia and Monrovia will be split into two assembly districts in the redistricting plan signed by Governor Gray Davis last week. Under the new plan, the 59th District, currently represented by Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy, will move 84% of Arcadia and 40% of Monrovia to Assemblywoman Carol Liu's 44th District. The new plan is still being challenged in court. Senate district boundaries were also modified but did not affect Arcadia.
Incumbents who were re-elected are Republican Congressman David Dreier in the 26th District, Congressman Adam Schiff in the 29th District, and Carol Liu in the 44th Assembly District.
Carol Libby was honored as Arcadia Senior of the Year for 2001 by the Arcadia Rotary Club. Carol has been in Arcadia since 1956 and is Curator at Arcadia Historical Society.
The Arcadia Police Department has moved to a new police station building at 250 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA, 91007, that is 42,000 square feet and cost $16 million. The official opening ceremony will be October 3, 2003. The old building that was built around 1956 will be demolished in a few weeks. Gold Line measure proposed. Supporters of the Metro Gold Line Extension through San Gabriel Valley are campaigning in Sacramento this week for legislation that would help create a new Gold Line authority. The new authority would provide for a 15-member board of representatives from the so-called Phase II cities, including Arcadia and Monrovia.
