Arcadia park goes to the dogs. The 46th annual Bassett Hound Picnic was held at the Arcadia County Park. Picnic featured contests for the saddest face, longest ears, most spots, humorous costume, and crazy hat.
The 9th annual "Remembering Our Veterans and Their Families" event was held at Arcadia County Park to honor our soldiers. Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich attended.

A sponge toss, sack race, pumpkin-carving contest and the Mayor's Spelling Bee will all return for the second annual Lucky Baldwin Day Community Picnic on October 27 at the Arcadia County Park.
Arcadia County Park fountain rededicated. The fountain in the park, which is a memorial to wartime casualties, was rededicated to honor those who perished in last year's September 11th terrorist attack. The fountain is being redone and will have a bronze peacock on the top of the fountain. The renovated landmark will be called Peacock Corner.
The City Council awarded a $30,000 commission to an Irvine artist, David Chapple, to create a bronze peacock sculpture as the focal point for the fountain at "Peacock Corner" in Arcadia County Park.
Finalists have been determined in the 2001 City of Arcadia Mayor's Spelling Bee. Competition will be held at the Lucky Baldwin Day Community Picnic on October 28.
Magna Entertainment Corporation, owners of Santa Anita Park race track, is bidding to purchase the September race dates at the Los Angeles County Fair for September 13-29. The Breeders Cup will be returning to Santa Anita Park next October after a gap of ten years.
The City of Arcadia celebrated the opening of an off-leash dog park with a Frisbee competition, prize raffle and food. It is located at Eisenhower Park at Second Avenue and Colorado.
The jobless rate in Los Angeles County jumped to 8.4% in October. Countywide, unemployment was up 33,000 in October to 415,000 people. Among San Gabriel Valley cities, Baldwin Park, El Monte and Montebello have the highest numbers of unemployed. A chart shows unemployment in other cities. Arcadia has 1,300, or 4.6% unemployed.
