Arcadia Police Department's PACE office in the Westfield Shoppingtown mall has a new name and sign. It is now called Arcadia Police Department-Community Services and two officers, Sgt. Bob Guthrie and Officer Paul van der Noorn, are now manning the station in the lower level, near JC Penney.
The new Dave & Buster's Restaurant will open at the Westfield Shoppingtown mall. The Dallas-based restaurant company melds pub, arcade and restaurant to target adults.
The Arcadia Unified school board has agreed to terms with mall developer Rick Caruso, who is offering free office space to the district inside his proposed Shops at Santa Anita. Caruso is offering 22,000 square feet of office space, plus 88 dedicated parking spots, for 40 years, at no charge.

Arcadia's City Council approved design guidelines for expansion of the Westfield Shopping mall. The expansion will increase the mall size by 276,000 square feet, in a two-level extension and an open-air mall, in the northeast quadrant of the center.

Chalfant stands by his July decision that the environmental impact report (EIR) that Arcadia officials relied upon in approving the mall was faulty in 11 areas and that it would have to be revised before the Caruso mall project, proposed for the Santa Anita Park race track parking lot, known as the Shops at Santa Anita, can move forward.
Two new issues brought up by Westfield Group against the Caruso project may go to Arcadia voters in a special election in November. One issue is to ban paid parking and the other is to prevent Caruso from erecting large billboards at the mall. Any election could cost the city up to $80,000.
Judge Dzintra I. Janavs said she will likely hold a non-jury trial on the two petitions, one by Westfield, another by Arcadia First!, against Caruso Affiliated next April. A court hearing today will provide clarification on Judge James Chalfant's July ruling that stopped progress on an upscale mall proposed by developer Rick Caruso at the Santa Anita Park parking lot. The proposed mall is known as the Shops at Santa Anita. In July, Judge Chalfant ruled that the environmental impact report (EIR) that Arcadia officials relied upon in approving the mall was faulty in 11 areas and would have to be revised before the project can move forward. Chalfant could modify his ruling today, or allow the existing ruling to become final judgment.
Holiday shopping at Westfield Shoppingtown - Santa Anita, was up as much a 7 to 10% over last year as shoppers jammed the mall the day after Thanksgiving.
The mall war continues as each side publishes public poll results. Westfield conducted a poll showing 57% of 400 respondents opposed to the new mall. Caruso did not release full results of its survey.
