Survey proposed on Arcadia Arts Center. The city and school district may collaborate on a public survey to determine public attitude toward construction of an Arts Center in Arcadia. City Manager Bill Kelly told local leaders that an arts center could cost from $5 to $15 million, whether it is an auditorium alone, or a complex, which could include an art gallery and meeting rooms.

Steinmeier and Yuen win seats on the school board. This was the first election to be conducted totally on touchscreen voting machines and results were available in 51 minutes.
The Administration at Arcadia High School had to institute a new policy against freak dancing or "freaking" after students got too wild at the Homecoming Dance. Freaking is a kind of dancing in which dancers grind against each other's pelvises. Students who attended the Winter Casual dance had to sign a contract "to conduct themselves appropriately both on and off the dance floor."
Arcadia High School has been honored with the 2002 BRAVO award for excellence in arts education by the Music Center of Los Angeles. The award recognizes art programs, including music and drama. Notable people Garry Marshall and Gayle Wilson, wife of former California governor Pete Wilson, attended the gala event.
The mall war continues as each side publishes public poll results. Westfield conducted a poll showing 57% of 400 respondents opposed to the new mall. Caruso did not release full results of its survey.
Steinmeier and Yuen are elected to School Board. Yuen is the first Asian-American elected to the board and this was the first full election conducted on computerized voting machines in LA County.
The Women's Health and Issues club at Arcadia High School has organized a petition against misogynistic music at this Saturday's prom. Activities director John Pung said he supports the club's cause and could guarantee that 20 songs from the club's 300 song list won't be played.
