Unemployment rates in Los Angeles County dropped to a record low in October. Countywide, the unemployment rate was 4.3 percent last month. Arcadia and several other San Gabriel Valley communities had unemployment rates below 3%.
Los Angeles County's unemployment rate rose to 5.5 percent in December 2005, up from 5.1 percent the previous month but down from 6.5 percent a year ago. Arcadia has a 2.7 percent jobless rate.

The Los Angeles County Claims Board approved a $2.5 million settlement for Deanna Sprinkel. She had been hit and dragged by a tram while visiting the Los Angeles County Arboretum.
After using the name "Arboretum of Los Angeles" for 55 years, the Arboretum has been given permission to use the name Los Angeles County Botanic Garden. Hopefully the new name will increase attendance.
The Los Angeles County Arboretum, which had its name changed to Los Angeles County Botanic Gardens, is now going back to the name Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gardens.
Arcadia resident Gary R. Dimkich has been appointed to the Los Angeles County Beach Commission. He is a graduate of California State University Los Angeles and owns DeLacey's Club 41 restaurant in Pasadena.
