California home sales are growing as values fall. A chart of October's median home prices gives a picture of the local real estate landscape. Arcadia's median home price in October, 2008 was $697,500, down 12.1% from the median price of $793,500 in October, 2007.
Arcadia will renovate Baldwin Avenue, Lower Azusa Road and Peck Road during September and October. The renovation is designed to maintain the city's infrastructure.

Construction is stalled on a $11.9 million project to build sound walls on a stretch of the westbound 210 Foothill Freeway, between Baldwin Avenue and Rosemead Boulevard, but work is expected to resume soon. The delay is due to inaccurate design plans that are being modified.

A large demonstration was held at the Vons division headquarters on Michillinda Avenue in an effort by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union to get the corporation to settle the labor dispute that has lasted for more than three months.

Carol Libby and Scott Hettrick of the Arcadia Historical Society are both on the Baldwin Adobe Restoration Committee, which wants to restore the Hugo Reid Adobe on the grounds of the Los Angeles County Arboretum. They want to re-create the adobe as it was in its heyday, when Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin lived there from 1875 until he died in 1909.
Home sales rise sharply in February with a 69.3% increase in sales in Los Angeles County over the same period a year ago. People are buying up foreclosed homes as prices drop in the San Gabriel Valley. Arcadia home prices came down 6.6%, whereas Azusa's home prices fell 45.3%. The median price of a single family home in the county was $298,000 in February, compared with $465,000 last year. Arcadia's median home price was the highest in the San Gabriel Valley, at $635,000. A weaponless 15-year-old boy from Los Angeles tried to carjack a man in an Arcadia hotel parking lot. The driver ran to the Extended Stay America on Santa Clara Road where the police were called. The youth was arrested. No names were released by police.
The state Department of Education has revised its Academic Performance Index rankings. Arcadia Unified School District revisions were: Baldwin Stocker Elementary from 4 to 7; Highland Oaks Elementary from 7 to 8; and Holly Avenue Elementary from 8 to 7.
The Arcadia Redevelopment Agency will vote on awarding $152,126 to Mariposa Horticultural Enterprises, Inc., to build a bus shelter and provide landscaping at the Arcadia Public Library.
Workers use earth-moving equipment to shore up Chantry Flat Road, which has been closed for over a year due to mudslides. The road may re-open at the end of September.
