48th Annual Arcadia Festival of Bands will be held Saturday, November 17. After 21 years with the Arcadia Unified School District, superintendent Mimi Hennessy, 63, is retiring. Her last day will be July 1, 2008, and Joel Shawn will take her place.
Some members of Arcadia Christian Academy's boys basketball team acted as heroes after a 65 year-old woman lost control of her Mercedes and ran it through a group of children and adults in Eagle Rock, where the team attended a game. The boys ran to the scene and helped lift the car off two children and an adult. There were no fatalities.
Arcadia resident Frank Hartog, who for 42 years served customers, schools and community groups, has sold his Sir JAX deli and will retire. He is being honored with a retirement party given by the El Monte Police department.
Harry Lee, a 73-year-old Chinese American sheriff from Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, is visiting Arcadia as part of a fundraising tour for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Deputy Disaster Relief Fund. He will be attending the Oak Tree Racing Association's Mid-Autumn Festival luncheon.
