Arcadia police investigators have completed an inquiry into the April 10 crash, in the 600 block of West Duarte Road, that killed 16-year-old Arcadia High School student Alice Zhang. Detective Michael Hale said the driver was negligent in driving a car with a dirty windshield that blinded him as he drove toward a setting sun. Arcadia officials are recommending the driver of the 1997 Lexus sedan that struck Alice Zhang and her friend who survived, be charged with vehicular manslaughter, but the District Attorney's office will review the case and decide on whether to prosecute the driver and on what grounds.

An 81-year-old West Covina man, Hao Liang, was struck and killed by a car when he was walking across Santa Anita Avenue, south of Duarte Road, last Wednesday, December 18, approximately 5:36 PM, at La Sierra Drive. The driver was a 36-year-old Monterey Park woman.
Man gets 64 years for sexually assaulting three workers at Westfield Santa Anita in Arcadia. Diego Cervantes, 37, of San Gabriel is a former maintenance supervisor at the mall. He was found guilty of rape and other sexual offenses.
Experts who have analyzed the crash that killed Alice Zhang, 16, of Arcadia, say that Bowen Du, the driver, did not have enough time to react to avoid the fatal accident. This report given by Du's attorney failed to address how or why Du failed to stop after other cars had stopped at the crosswalk, which is required by California Vehicle Code.
An overnight break-in occurred at Burlington Coat Factory in Arcadia, at 1201 S. Baldwin Avenue. Employee found a jewelry display case had been smashed open. Arcadia police searched the store but no suspect was found. It was not clear what, if anything, had been stolen, other than the jewelry from the case.

Suspect in double killing back in United States to face trial. Deyun Shi, a man accused of beating his nephews Anthony Lin and William Lin, of Arcadia, to death, is extradited from Hong Kong. Shi, 44, is a Chinese national, living in the US on a business visa.
A pictorial collection of historic estates and vintage homes from the collections of the Arcadia Historical Society is now exhibiting at the Ruth and Charles Gilb Arcadia Historical Museum, through August 20, 2011. Inglewood's Hollywood Park racing history going to auction. The track recently closed for good, but the 75-year-old Southern California landmark is having a 2-day auction of miscellaneous surplus equipment. "All of the good merchandise--the good furniture, paintings, memorabilia--has been moved to Santa Anita Park and to other racetracks, and what they have here is the dregs," said Tijuana-based antique dealer Antonio Vibrillo.
A passenger (name withheld pending notification to next of kin) in a stolen vehicle was killed and another hurt yesterday following a pursuit by Arcadia police. Richard John Villareal, 28, of Arcadia, and his male passenger led Arcadia police on a chase that ended about 11:40 AM on Lower Azusa Road and Arden Drive in Temple City when the stolen car crashed into two other vehicles. Six candidates are running for three seats on the Arcadia City Council. They are Bob Harbicht, Paul Cheng, Mickey Segal, Peter Amundson, Jason Lee, and Sho Tay. They each answer the questions, "What should be done to improve the city's fiscal situation?" and "How should the city handle the Caruso mall proposal at Santa Anita (Park)?" The election will be in April.
