City of Sierra Madre police must find another way to deal with officer shortage after Arcadia balks at sharing officer. Sierra Madre officials had hoped Arcadia could help through a contract between the cities where one Arcadia officer would help patrol areas of Sierra Madre at night and backup would be available as needed. Arcadia 16-year-old Roger A. Lewis, who was struck by a car while bicycling, has died. The accident occurred over the weekend at Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road. The driver who struck Lewis was driving a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. Lewis was a former student at Arcadia High School.
Arcadia man Larry Roger Beck, 66 years old, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for killing his girlfriend's toddler son in Louisville, Kentucky 43 years ago. He admitted to shaking the 20-month old Michael Sanders, which was a factor that caused the child's death.
Arcadia Councilman Roger Chandler ridicules Senator Anthony Portantino's support of State Assembly Bill AB 931. The California Police Officers Association (CPOA) also opposes AB 931. The bill concerns the use of force by police officers. The bill would require peace officers to attempt to control an incident by using time, distance, communications, and available resources to de-escalate a situation whenever it is safe and reasonable to do so. Chandler says it is very bad for Arcadia but a dream come true for lawyers.
