Is the Sport of Kings on the line? Santa Anita Park bans Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. Stronach Group released this statement in the wake of another equine fatality, "Individuals who do not embrace the new rules and safety measures that put horse and rider above all else will have no place at any Stronach Group race track.
Stronach Group names Joe Morris, Senior VP of West Coast Operations, effective November 9, 2015. He will oversee operations at Santa Anita Park, Golden Gate Fields, and San Luis Rey Training Center and will report to Keith Brackpool.

Stronach Group and Santa Anita Park issue statement following the death of a 3-year-old colt named Emtech, euthanized on September 28. Two-time Kentucky Derby winning jockey Mario Gutierrez was tossed off in the incident. Santa Anita park will be reviewing the factors that could have contributed to Emtech's injury. Veterinarians Dr. Dionne Benson and Dr. Dana Stead were employed to euthanize and investigate.

Jockey Rodolfo Arvizu will receive the 2014 White Horse Award for his selfless effort to rescue fellow jockey Annie Von Rosen this past March, when her horse suddenly collapsed and trapped her underneath, at Turf Paradise. Frank Perini, longtime Arcadia Rotary member and hairdresser, honored on his 93rd birthday. He had 58 years of perfect attendance in Rotary. Frank Perez changed his name to the Italian sounding Perini to be able to buy a house and to be accepted into Arcadia Rotary.
Artificial soccer field replacement inflates debate over tire crumb rubber. Arcadia has approved a $165,000 replacement of synthetic turf with "Revolution 360," a monofilament with fibers made with crumb rubber sand infill. Environmental health advocates are concerned about suspected carcinogens in it.
Arcadia Unified School District has launched new online application for its meals program. For each student that qualifies for free or reduced-priced meals, the savings can equal more than $1400 per school year. Under the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) adopted by the state, school districts will receive additional money for each student that qualifies. Arcadia High School students that qualify can also waive AP and SAT fees, graduation will be free, and get a reduced rate for Grad Night.
Opening day at Santa Anita Park will be September 30. It will be proclaimed "Arcadia Day" and all Arcadia residents will be granted free Club House admission with proof of residency. A brand new state-of-the-art natural dirt main track was completed July 26.

John Edward Maust, 34, a teacher at Arroyo Pacific Academy in Arcadia, was arrested for kidnapping three juveniles after asking them for a ride. Maust pulled a knife on them. He turned himself in to Altadena Sheriff's Station.
20-year-old man Jason Scott Gustin found guilty of attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend in Arcadia. On August 22, 2016, according to testimony at trial, Gustin met near Arcadia and sat in his car to talk when he pulled out a knife and slashed her throat and then began strangling her. As the victim tried to escape, he stabbed her multiple times. She ran away to a nearby convalescent home. He was arrested a short time later after he showed up at his mother’s workplace in Arcadia.
