Bob Baffert, a Hall of Fame horse trainer, had a heart attack in Dubai, where he was preparing a horse named Game on Dude in the $10 million Dubai World Cup. Baffert's assistant Jim Barnes, said from Santa Anita Park, that Baffert was doing well after having three stents inserted into two arteries.

Breeders' Cup Classic's controversy was an extremely hot topic. The three-member panel of Scott Chaney, Tom Ward, and Kim Sawyer looked at the start of Saturday's $5 million race immediately afterward, saw eventual winner Bayern veer in sharply at the start, severely impeding Shared Belief and Moreno, and determined the incident did not warrant a disqualification.

Breeders' Cup: Sport of Kings shines in Southern California at Santa Anita Park. The main attraction on Saturday, the second day, was the Classic, a 1 1/4 mile race that featured California Chrome and several other top thoroughbreds, including Jim Rome-owned horse Shared Belief, Robert Evans-owned horse Tonalist and Bob Baffert-trained Bayern. Breeders' Cup World Championships the "Super Bowl of horse racing" took place at at Santa Anita Park yesterday and Friday. Attendance was 55,123 on Saturday. Jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr., on horse Fort Larned, won the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday, and horse Wise Dan won the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile.

Triple Crown winning race horse American Pharoah not done yet. Santa Anita Park-based trainer Bob Baffert guided the horse to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes to become a Triple Crown winner. The horse needs to rest up for now.

Breeders' Cup nets big bucks for this region's economy. This is the eighth time and third time in a row that Breeders' Cup was held at Santa Anita Park. A recent study by Tourism Economics reveals that the 2013 Breeders' Cup generated nearly $65 million in direct and indirect economic benefits for Los Angeles County.
