Arcadia Host Town Committee met with the Trinidad-Tobago Head of Delegation Candy Berman-Harper and Trinidad policeman and fireman Ferdinand Bibby. Arcadia is one host town for the upcoming Special Olympics, which run July 25-August 2. There will be 100 Special Olympians, coaches, and mentors from Trinidad-Tobago and Kyrgyz Republic staying in Arcadia and enjoying meals, programs, and tours around town. The San Gabriel Valley is well represented at this summer's Games of the XXX Olympiad in London, UK. Seven Americans call the SGV home. They are Kim Rhode, Alex Morgan, Dominic Breazeale, Joseph Diaz, Jr., Tony Gunawan, Erica Wu (Arcadia) and Rena Wang (Arcadia).
Erica Wu's parents are ready to cheer for their daughter, competing in table tennis in the summer Olympics in London, UK, on August 3. Wu, 16, was born and raised in Arcadia and attends Westridge School in Pasadena.
Erica Wu, a Westridge School student who lives in Arcadia, earned the United States' third and final Olympic berth by placing third at the North American Table Tennis trials two weeks ago in Cary, NC. She will go to the London Olympics 2012. Her teammates are Ariel Hsing of San Jose and Lily Zhang of Palo Alto.
Mirai Nagasu, of the United States Olympic ice skating team, a local Arcadia girl, finished fourth in the 2010 Winter Olympics figure skating competition in Vancouver, British Columbia.
