Arcadia Fire Chief Kurt Norwood announces his retirement. He began his career in Arcadia in March, 1987 as a firefighter. His last day will be July 9. See also Mountain Views News, p. 6, June 18, 2016.
Anti-mansionization goes to the ballot. Zoning code issue continues as anti-mansionization group Saving Arcadia (an outgrowth of Save the Arcadia Highlands) takes it to the ballot in April 2018. Arcadia Police and City Clerk investigate Arcadia City Council candidate Sho Tay's mail-in election ballot collection effort. Tay had enlisted the help of students from the Democratic Club at Arcadia High School to offer residents of Arcadia stamps for the mail-in postcard. See hard copy in VF City Council Elections 2014.

Arcadia's bond rating raised to highest possible AAA rating from Standard and Poor's (S&P), with the outlook for the city as "stable." The rating increase from AA to the highest rating of AAA is a reflection of Arcadia's strong economy, budgetary performance and flexibility and liquidity, but namely strong management and solid financial practices and responsibility by city leaders. Arcadia residents pass Measure A by significant majority. It is a 3/4 cent sales tax increase, passed with 63.94% of the vote in Tuesday's mail-in ballot. General Municipal Election announced for April 10, 2018 to elect three city council members for Districts 2, 3 and 5. (This will be the first election since switching from at-large elections to district elections.)

In the wake of the firing of Arcadia High School cross country coach James O'Brien, twelve alumni, students and parents, have joined forces in an intensive effort to recall Arcadia Unified School District Board members Cung Nguyen, Kay Kinsler, and Lori Phillipi. The recall petition is headed by Esmond Wei. One issue is a list of O'Brien's alleged CIF violations that Arcadia High School formally sent to CIF officials. According to Wei, Arcadia High School's principal refused to let O'Brien see the letter. Wei said support for O'Brien is growing. See also p. 8 for related story.

Only 22 school districts in California honored by College Board for 7th Annual AP District Honor Roll and Arcadia High School is one of them. This means that since 2014, the qualifying school had to increase the number of students participating in AP courses while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP exam scores of 3 or higher.
Arcadia Unified School District adds Common Core Days to the 2014-2015 school calendar. This means students will be released at 11:40 on 9/18, 10/9, 11/6, 1/8, 2/5, 3/5, and 5/14.
Deadline to return Arcadia ballots is Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 8:00 PM, in person, at City Clerk's office. Ballots postmarked April 10 must be received on or before April 13 to count.
