Arcadia Unified saves taxpayers over $40 million by refinancing bonds that were obtained through Measure I, Facilities Bond that voters approved November 2006. The refinancing takes advantage of current lower interest rates.

Arcadia Unified School District upgraded and improved four campuses over summer break, costing nearly $10 million. Funded under the district's $218 million Measure I Bond, the four schools that got updated classrooms and facilities are Arcadia High School, Camino Grove Elementary, Hugo Reid Elementary, and Highland Oaks Elementary schools.

Making the transition to Common Core State Standards. Arcadia Unified School District recruits in-house teachers, rather than hire outside consultants, to serve as classroom mentors for implementation. The standards align curricula across 46 states and District of Columbia.
Arcadia Vietnam War Monument placed in Arcadia County Park. It is 22,000 pounds. From 1966-1972, 14 U.S. servicemen from Arcadia became casualties of the war in Vietnam. Fueld by rising prices in Arcadia, Pomona, Pico Ribera and most beach cities, the Los Angeles metropolitan area bucked a national trend this year, as it saw a 3.3% year-over-year gain in home prices, according to a report by Standard & Poor's and Case-Shiller. Arcadia saw a 39.6% increase in home prices this year.

Governor Brown appoints Arcadia man Raj Patel, 54, to the California Building Standards Commission, where he has served since 2015. The position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation.
Arcadia City Clerk is accepting applications from people under age 18 to serve on the Youth Advisory Council. It is a 7 member group appointed by City Council. Four must be current high school students and three must be middle school students. See also Arcadia Weekly, p. 3, March 31, 2016.
