Pasadena Tournament of Roses announces 2024 Rose Queen Naomi Stillitano, a senior from Arcadia High School. She is the 105th Rose Queen, lives in Arcadia, is co-president of Italian Culture Club, a dancer and actress with the Arcadia Stage Theater. Born and raised in Italy for 7 years, with goal to create her own fashion brand, interested in studying fashion design. The Rose Queen and the Rose Court act as ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena community, and the greater Los Angeles area. Each Royal Court member receives a $7500 educational scholarship.
Arcadia High School preparing to play big part in upcoming Rose Parade. Nearly 200 Arcadia High School students will be marching in the 5.5 mile parade route in the 133rd annual Rose Parade on January 1. Arcadia High School Choral Program concludes year with First Annual Choir Night Cafe benefit concert on May 20 at Arcadia Performing Arts Center. 2022 has been a year marked with change, with a new director and a return to in-person performances following distance learning due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Choral Program consists of Concert Choir and Chanteurs.
For the first time in two years, the Arcadia Educational Foundation (AEF) Summer School Program for 2022 will happen in person for all grade levels. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, summer school had to be conducted virtually during the summers of 2020 and 2021. As for health and safety, summer school has been adapted in accordance with the health guidelines and regulations that Arcadia Unified School District follows.

Arcadia High School student Stanley Liu, in photo, entered and earned second place at the annual Los Angeles County Science Fair, which staged its competition online this year due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Liu's project was a microfluidic device capable of pinpointing biomarkers associated with disease in human blood plasma. He will be a finalist for the International Science and Engineering Fair.
Community rallies around Arcadia Donuts' owners Francois Ung and Shally Ung. In recent weeks, they've been doing fundraisers for victims and survivors of the mass shooting at a Monterey Park dance studio one year ago, which claimed the life of their friend Andy Kao. Surveillance video shows someone broke into Ung's car and stole the fundraiser money. A Gofundme is set up if people want to help the couple recover the money.

The USC Arcadia Hospital helds its Crystal Ball fundraiser on October 7 to honor cardiologist Dr. Heiner Vogelbach for his 40 years of dedication to USC Arcadia Hospital (formerly Methodist Hospital). The entertainment was by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Some of Vogelbach's career information is included.
Arcadia donor must go to jail during appeal. Imaad Zuberi, 50, of Arcadia pleaded guilty in 2019 to falsifying records, violating foreign agents act. He was a businessman and political fundraiser who obstructed a federal probe into donations to former President Donald Trump's inaugural committee.

Businesses rejoice as Coronavirus restrictions are relaxed. On Friday, California met the vaccine equity goal that allowed public health jurisdictions in Los Angeles County, including Pasadena, to move into the less restrictive red tier of the state’s reopening roadmap on Monday. As Los Angeles County geared up for some semblance of familiarity after an extraordinary 12 months of lockdown, the defining red tier reached is a delineating moment for better days ahead. The staggering loss of life, political turmoil and concerns of becoming another statistic weigh heavily on the minds of Southern Californians as we enter into the next phase of reopening businesses which we used to take for granted. As of Monday, indoor dining, movie theatres and other businesses were allowed to reopen with limited capacity — restaurants at 25% for example.
Pasadena City College Board. Three challengers hold leads over incumbents in the recent primary election. In Trustee Area 7, Incumbent Anthony Fellow and Alton Wang, a legal advocate focused on improving representation in government for communities across the country, hope to represent the city of Arcadia on the college's Board of Trustees. Wang led early in a tight race. Both Fellow and Wang recognize the importance of the issues of housing insecurity and increasing access to college courses in the wake of declining enrollment at PCC. Horse named Heaven's Music is dead, jockey Erick Garcia is injured, after a collision at Santa Anita Park. A racehorse named Mighty Matt collided with Heaven's Music during last Friday's fourth race. Heaven's Music suffered an ankle injury and was later euthanized. Heaven's Music is the 11th horse to die from a racing or training injury at Santa Anita Park this year.
A cabin is lost, but memories endure. Greg Vanni of Arcadia, had a cabin among the 80 historic Chantry Flat cabins in Big Santa Anita Canyon. It burned to its foundation in the Bobcat Fire. It was a 350-foot cabin built in 1910 during "The Great Hiking Era," a time between the 1880s to the late 1930s in Southern California, when settlers from the city were drawn to the San Gabriel Mountains looking for adventure. The historic Adams Pack Station survived the fire.
