The fight over affirmative action arrives in Arcadia. Arcadia Mayor Roger Chandler and Councilmember Paul Cheng will participate in a demonstration to protest Proposition 16 on Saturday at Arcadia County Park. Proposition 16 is a constitutional amendment that would repeal Proposition 206, which banned the use of affirmative action involving race-based or sex-based preferences in California, from the state constitution.

Man hospitalized yesterday after explosion of possible illegal butane honey oil drug lab in a commercial building in Arcadia. At 2;23 PM, Arcadia Fire Department responded to a fire in the 11700 block of Goldring Road and determined an explosion had happened and found a man inside. He was taken to the hospital due to the severity of his burns. Honey oil is described as a marijuana concentrate made by extracting THC from marijuana.
What's next for cabins in Santa Anita Canyon affected by Bobcat Fire? Historic cabins dating from the early 1900s were threatened by the fire in September. The number of cabins decreased to 63 from 80. Most were built during the Great Hiking Era. The cabin owners still use the original hand-crank telephone system invented by Alexander Graham Bell. 210 Freeway closure returns this week. For second time in a month, motorists face delays during a 5-day shutdown for bridge construction, closing eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway from the 605 Freeway interchange to Irwindale Avenue. The delays may be more pronounced in the weekday afternoon during peak hours through Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, and Irwindale, as the eastbound lanes detour from 6 lanes into 3 lanes.
Two corporate executives found guilty in first-ever criminal prosecution for failure to report under the Consumer Product Safety Act. Simon Chu, 68, of Chino Hills, and Charley Loh, 65, of Arcadia, found guilty. They sold defective dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai in China. See hard copy in VF.

Some evacuation orders lifted-Bobcat Fire. Sierra Madre and Arcadia residents okayed to return to their homes starting yesterday (Wednesday) at 4 PM. By Wednesday evening the fire had grown to 46,263 acres with containment still at 3%.
Return engagements for marching bands. All but one band scheduled for the 2021 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, which was canceled, has agreed to perform in 2022. The Arcadia Apache Marching Band and Color Guard will march in January 2022.
Judge found that a man was sane at the time of the bludgeoning deaths of his then-estranged wife's two teenage nephews in the boys' Arcadia home. Deyun Shi is on trial for the murders of 15-year-old Anthony Lin, who was asleep when attacked with bolt cutters, and 16-year-old brother William Lin, who was killed while studying in a separate room, on January 22, 2016. Shi was found giulty on two counts of first-degree murder.
Arcadia doctor helps found PPE donation group. Dr. Karen Tsai, co-founded DonatePPE.org along with Bay Area engineer Deyu Kong. The organization has donated some 2.2 million items of PPE (personal protective equipment) to hospitals, schools and homeless shelters during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
