Obituary or death notice. Marine Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui died among terrorist victims in a two bomb attack outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. He attended Holly Avenue Elementary School and then First Avenue Middle School in Arcadia. He left this district in 7th grade in 2014. See also Pasadena Star News, p. A6, August 30, 2021.
Application deadline looms for Arcadia small-business grants totaling $1 million. The applications are due December 29, 2022 and the program is funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The grants can be used for physical improvements to a company's place of business, updating digital marketing and branding and other improvements focused on attracting new customers. Obituary / death notice. James C. Lesperance, died January 20, 2006 at the age of 74. He was a long-time resident of Arcadia until retiring to Mammoth Lakes. Jim is survived by his wife Marylin, their children Laura, Jim, Doug (d), Renee, Corinne, and Jeff, eight grandchildren and four stepchildren. Services will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 5605 Cloverly Avenue, Temple City, on Saturday, January 28, at 12:00 p.m.

In Loving Memory of Jean Irwin Lewis, Aug. 21, 1914 - Nov. 7, 2006. Jean was born in El Monte, California. She was the school nurse at Rosemead High School for 26 years. After retirement in 1976, Jean enjoyed traveling and her second home in Mexico. She has been active with the Arcadia Senior Friendship Club and the Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Jean always had a zest for living and enjoyed new experiences. Her husband, Jim Lewis, and daughter, Sally Lash, survive her. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, Covina, in her name.
The death of 3-year-old Talmin Moye II, caused by driver Sara Bravo in a stolen car during a police chase, reopens issues of police chase policies. Lieutenant Ken Harper of the Arcadia Police Department said the police officers were justified in pursuing a stolen car.
