Gerald A. Parker, last years's City Employee of the Year, has been appointed director of finance. Parker replaces Alan Murphy, who died earlier this month after a long battle with cancer.

The Space Utilization Committee will probably recommend the closure of two schools. Consensus was that one of the two should be Bonita Park, the smallest elementary school in the district. Committee members are still studying which other school to pair with Bonita Park.
Arcadia will no longer permit wood roofs for new construction and replacement throughout the city. The City Council has restricted all new roofing to Class A. Final vote was 3-2, with Councilmen David Hannah and Dick Haltom against the ban on wood roofs and Mayor Don Pellegrino joining Councilman Jeff Dring and Mayor Pro Tem Dennis Lojeski on the winning side.

The Board of Education has begun deliberations on cutting programs to match the $1.2 million in budget cuts that must be made. Sixty teachers may be terminated. Other possible program cuts are discussed.
Carolyn Searfoss, a bus driver for the Arcadia Unified School District, has been active for 12 years in the Arcadia Music Club, the parent support group for the band and orchestra. Among other things, she attempts to measure and fit some 200 uniforms for members of the band.
A new office building is being constructed on the corner of Huntington and Indiana. It will occupy the site of the old service station run for man years by William Stockman, but which has been closed for some time.
