Focus on the Family, and Arcadia-based Christian organization dedicated to the preservation of the home, is about to move into new offices in Arcadia. The organization, which has grown rapidly over the past few years, currently has 310 employees and occupies offices in 7 separate buildings in Arcadia. The new building, located on Foothill Blvd., will be completed around the first of October.
Focus on the Family, Arcadia's 5th largest employer, has run out of room and may have to leave town. The mushrooming non-profit organization with a Christian radio, publishing, counseling, film and television ministry, could leave within 6 months to a year.
Arcadia's Focus on the Family has a "handshake agreement" to move to Pomona. The 5th largest employer in Arcadia, with 400 workers, will move everything except a warehouse in Monrovia, to Pomona.
Arcadia Police Chief L. J. Richards is recovering from a knee injury suffered when he risked his life while trying to subdue a wild cow on the rampage.
Friends of the Arcadia Library and their guests will gather on Thursday, May 26 to hear Sandy Snider, whose topic will be "Elias Jackson 'Lucky' Baldwin: California Visionary," the title of her latest book, at the Arcadia Library.
Baldwin Stocker Elementary School opened its Baldwin Stocker Information Center, complete with 16 Apple 2e computers and a computer encyclopedia stored on a single laser disc. It will soon feature modems, fax machines and laser discs. Funding comes from the state and from local support groups such as the Arcadia Educational Foundation and the PTA. Photos.
Long-time resident J. Lyle Cunningham, Arcadia Citizen of the Year in 1983 and former president of the Arcadia Rotary Club, died on December 15th at Methodist Hospital of natural causes. He was 82. Mr. Cunningham was actively involved in the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, the Arcadia Red Cross, the Church of the Good Shepherd and Arcadians for Arcadia.
