Anoakia annexation by Arcadia effort underway. Because of a law change, the major landholder can no longer determine an area's status. On January 21, 1975, a petition was presented signed by 33 registered voters in the area around Anoakia.
Don Alcorn, a 20-year veteran of the Arcadia Police Department, has been named to the new post of Emergency Services Coordinator by the Arcadia City Council. Alcorn's job is to prepare an emergency plan that will cover any aspect of any possible disaster, from earthquake to fire to nuclear disaster.
Although owners of horse-size lots in Southeast Arcadia recently lost a battle before the City Council to extend a moratorium on subdivisions in the area, one leader of the group says they will continue their fight on 2 fronts: a lawsuit against the city and the formation of a new citizen's group to put initiative measures on the city ballot to limit development of Arcadia.
A moratorium prohibiting the subdivision of large horse property lots in South Arcadia ended June 20 after a tie vote due to the absence of Council member Charles Gilb.

The City Council on May 6 passed a resolution as required by law consenting to the annexation of the Anoakia area. They also passed a second resolution requesting the Board of Supervisors to hold off on any general plans or zone change hearings until after the annexation election is held.

It appears likely the Arcadia City Council will make a 180 degree turn at the July 6 meeting, when the proposed ban on wood roofs will once again be on the agenda. At the meeting last week Pellegrino and Lojeski had apparently changed their minds. In any case the second reading has been held over to the next meeting. Concerned citizens were given a chance to speak on the issue during the time reserved for audience participation.
An ad hoc committee has been formed to consider the proposal to annex a new area. A staff report indicates there would be considerable cost to the city if annexation is approved. One area of particular concern is the deficiency in the water supply in the area.
Fearing a glut of smut near their schools and churches, 1000 local people, including more than 500 Arcadians, signed a petition against adult business zoning and presented it to the Arcadia City Council.
