Two instances of racial vandalism occurred in Arcadia in 1986. In one case the windows of a synagogue were shot out with a bb gun and in another case, a rabbi's home had a swastika sprayed on it.
Police have arrested nine people who are believed to be members of a San Gabriel Valley Asian gang that has been under investigation in recent months for terrorizing local Asian youths. Four adults and five juveniles were taken into custody after police linked them with a February 15 kidnapping, attempted extortion and assault.
The East Arcadia home of an Asian family was vandalized by unknown assailants. A motive for the crime was not known, though there was some speculation that it may have been racially motivated.
A recent meeting between Asian parents, police and school district members was quite successful, School Board Member Robert Kladifko told the Board. He said recent fights between Asians and Caucasians at the Arcadia High School and the Arcadia Library were not racially motivated.

Police have arrested a 16 year old Arcadia High School student on suspicion of firing a gun Monday afternoon at two teenagers involved in an on-campus brawl several hours earlier.
200 people turned out to honor retired Arcadia Tribune editor, Helen Schrader. The retirement party included mayors and public officials from surrounding communities served by the Foothill Inter-City newspapers which were edited by Mrs. Schrader.

According to the Arcadia Police Department's monthly activity report for the month of December, which reports statistics for the entire year, daytime burglaries increased while night burglaries decreased. Also, there were no murders, 3 rapes, 2 attempted rapes, 36 assaults with a gun and 13 arrests for indecent exposure in 1987.
Some teachers began picketing in front of the district offices. At issue were charges of stalling on negotiations and the 1% increase offer by the School Board which the teachers called "an insult." Superintendent Ed Ryan said that if the two unions had been able to get together on their demands the problem might have been resolved by now.
Inter-racial problems at Arcadia High School are not as bad as they have been made out to be, according to 2 Associated Student Body officers, but the problems there are, they said, can be blamed on both Asians and Caucasians.
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Richard Jarnagin, who created and directed the Los Angeles Co. Parks and Recreation's tax assessment districts. The 63 year old Arcadia resident died April 15 in his home after a struggle with cancer.
Two Arcadia High School students were served with warrants and arrested at their homes early Wednesday morning on suspicion of selling drugs on the high school campus.
