On April 6, Arcadia will have a local election to fill two City Council seats and the position of City Clerk. Seven candidates are profiled: Charles Chivetta, George Fasching, Vincent Foley, Ruth Gilb, Bob Harbicht, Dennis Lojeski and Gino Roncelli. June Alford is also profiled. Over two thousand Arcadia High School students gathered Nov. 3rd to attend their exclusive free concert featuring Immature, Brandy and Coolio. The high school won a contest sponsored by KIIS FM, with the free concert as the prize. Photos.
Some city departments have been reorganized to increase economic development, financial planning and team building. The Finance Dept. is now Administrative Services, merging support services with finance, purchasing, data processing, and records management. The Public Works Dept. is now the Maintenance Services Dept, maintaining the city's parks, streets, and water systems.
The Arcadia Chamber of Commerce has chosen 4 special individuals to bestow their annual awards upon. They are: Joan Clive and Jesse Vanlandingham both tied for Community Volunteer of the Year; Mike Lamb, Business Person of the Year; and Chris Loomis, Chamber Service Award.
The Arcadia Coordinating Council's Campership Program, now in its 48th year, assists over 200 underprivileged youths in the Arcadia area in attending weeklong, all-day, or halfday summer camps.
The Arcadia Community Center now offers a meal program with a charge of $3, as there in no federal funding for this program. The Center offers a variety of programs, from skilled nursing care to government benefits counseling to recreation programs to dances and free movies.
