The terms of G. Michael Allison, Robert Kladifko and James Bryant will expire on June 30. Bryant will stay on for another term, to be joined by newcomers Michael Lamb, 41, a 20-year resident and funeral director and Maryann Gibson, an 11-year resident and PTA Council President.
Ten men filed to run for election to the Arcadia City Council: Andrew Bard, Jon Bon Eske, William Carpenter, Roger Chandler, Charles Chivetta, William Gahr, Robert Harbicht, Dennis Lojeski, Lewis "Pete" May and James Neumeister. Councilman David Hannah did not file. He said earlier he would not seek re-election.
Dave Hannah decided to run for election to the Arcadia City Council instead of running for re-election to the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees where he earned a reputation for frugality.
In a surprise move, 2 members of the Arcadia Board of Education announced that they will not run for re-election next year. Carol Papay, an 8-year member and currently board chairwoman, and Donald Fickas, a 13-year member, both said they will step down to allow interested individuals the opportunity to consider running for their seats.
Gloria Horstman and Pete May, School Board of Education members, have announced they will not seek re-election. The third member whose term is nearly up, Paul Friedman, has not made up his mind.
Mayor Roger Chandler lost his bid for re-election as challengers George Fasching and Joseph Ciraulo and incumbent Robert Harbicht were elected to the Arcadia City Council. Fasching led with 27.2% of the vote, followed by Ciraulo with 22.1% and Harbicht with 19.8%.
Filing opens December 26 for candidates for three seats on the School Board. The seats up for re-election are: Lewis May - just completed his first 4 year term; George Frempter - 8 years; Gloria Horstman - appointed to fill the vacancy created by the death of Gary Mills. The election will be held April 5.
A hearing was held re the Arcadia Unified School District definition of segregation. The Board's criterion is that a school is segregated only when one minority group exceeds 50% of that school's enrollment.
The School Board has begun discussions on a proposed tax increase election to cope with galloping inflation. The Board hopes to hold the election on April 15, 1975 in conjunction with the election for Board members.
