"Good Old Days" in Arcadia schools. Superintendent Mimi Hennessy presented her State of the District report to the Arcadia Rotary. She said Arcadia is sending 98% of graduates on to higher education, and gives other figures and statistics.
An upscale senior citizens' residential community has been proposed on the site of Santa Anita Inn. The project is called Huntington Pointe and will include 260 units. It would be owned by Huntington Partnership and E.D.I., which owns and operates Santa Anita Inn.
Arcadia City Clerk June Alford, who has served in the elective office since 1988, will retire at the end of her current term in April. City Council approved the creation of a new job of Chief Deputy City Clark with a salary of $5600/month.
First Avenue zone change delayed. Owners of property at 1020-1026 First Avenue have three more months to work out a compromise for use of the property, with six condominiums in development, in an area zoned as single family residential. Arcadia staffers have found a number of areas where the city general plan and zoning map do not agree in designation.
