About 800 Arcadia High School students walked out of classes and gathered on the library lawn to demonstrate support for their teachers and to protest the cancellation of the senior assembly, an annual high school tradition.
In honor of the high school marching band traveling to Newcastle, Australia, a film crew from "Down Under" arrived in Arcadia to shoot scenes around the city. Mayor Don Pellegrino served as tour guide. Police detained four teenagers Tuesday for questioning about a lunch time melee Monday involving a dozen youths at Arcadia High School in which a teenager was hit on the head with a lead pipe.

Arcadia High School is the only school in the country to offer a class in race track management. Requirements to take the course are stiff. The aim of the class is to expose interested seniors to executive management techniques.
Ten Arcadia High School students have been selected as National Merit finalists, placing them among 14,000 competing for the 6100 available Merit Scholarships. The seniors are Kenneth Branson, Sidney Chung, Enrique Colayco, Bonnie Flinn, Norbert Hsu, Jacqueline Luk, Douglas McCreary, Regina Momblanco, David Park and Henry Tseng.
A new director has been hired to take the place of Dave Alstadt, who is moving to direct vocal music. The new man is John Work, currently band director at Pasadena High School.
