The Arcadia branch of the California School Employees Association and the Board of Education have come to an agreement on a new contract that will give the non-teaching, non-administrative employees a 5.755 raise retroactive to July 1, 1986.
Though Arcadia Unified School District has had to cut back on employees due to lack of money from the state, it will soon hire and elementary school counselor thanks to some imaginative use of state grant money.

Arcadia Methodist Hospital workers vote to unionize. The nearly 700 technical employees, nursing assistants and other workers have voted to join the Caregiver Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU). The CHEU is a sister union to California Nurses Association. The employees want to win strong union representation, better benefits and improved conditions for employees and patients.
Arthur Farr, 46, the band and orchestra leader at Dana Junior High School, has been named the Arcadia Unified School District's 1990 Teacher of the Year. Farr has been teaching band and orchestra at Dana for 23 years, as well as coaching the basketball team and teaching physical education. Arcadia teachers will file an unfair labor charge against the Arcadia Unified School District for "not participating in a timely manner" in a process of negotiations called fact-finding.
Isabelle Stires is retiring after 19 years in the Arcadia Unified School District. This past year Mrs. Stires has been teaching second grade at Camino Grove School. Before that she taught second and third graded at Bonita Park School. She and her husband plan to travel.
Health care workers and employees at Arcadia Methodist Hospital voted to unionize. They voted to join Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) for a stronger collective voice on patient care issues, especially in improving safe staffing.
