Enrollment in Arcadia schools, for the 8th school month declined compared to the same month last year. Enrollment overall, slipped from 7,553 to 7,419.
A chart shows school enrollment numbers from 1998 to 2004. More than 40 percent of the public school districts in California are experiencing declining enrollment. Experts say it is due to a decline in the birth rate and families' migration patterns.
Due to lower enrollment, Immaculate Conception School (K-4th grades) in Monrovia and Annunciation School (5th-8th grades) in Arcadia will merge their resources and student bodies to stay open.

The school board voted for a reduction of 12 positions. Cause for not rehiring the teachers, all at the elementary level, has to do with the declining enrollment.
After 2 months of classes, enrollment for Arcadia schools is down 400 from last year at this time. The only enrollment increase has been in grades 4-6.
The School Board has approved two five-year leases for Bonita Park and Santa Anita schools to the Creative Academy of Learning and the Arcadia Christian school respectively. The leases will bring in $130,000 during the 1981-82 school year.

Arcadia High School opened the school year with an added 800 9th grade students, bringing total enrollment to 3050. 50% of the students are new to the school.
Enrollment in Arcadia schools dipped from 7,695 to 7,552 compared to the same time last year, although it increased in grades 9-12 and may be leveling off in kindergarten.
Santa Anita Park jockeys play basketball against Holy Angels School's 7th and 8th grade boys at the annual Jockey Game, part of the school's 60th anniversary celebration.
Volunteer aides make the Early Childhood Education program work. the State mandated and funded program aims at giving youngsters from pre-school through the 3rd grade better learning experiences. Camino Grove is the only school in the district with the pilot program.
Barnhart School aims to be the best. Founded in 1959 by Dr. Ethel Barnhart, the school is affiliated with non-denominational Santa Anita Church, K-8th grades.
