The lawsuit between Arcadia and El Monte is based on the disputed number of toilets at a Public Storage facility in South Arcadia. El Monte claims there are 5 toilets. Arcadia claims there are 3. Earlier it had been reported there was only one toilet.
The 3-toilet turmoil in South Arcadia has become a battle of constitutional proportions. The lawsuit alleges that El Monte is attempting to extort land use concessions from Arcadia.
The Los Angeles County Claims Board approved a $2.5 million settlement for Deanna Sprinkel. She had been hit and dragged by a tram while visiting the Los Angeles County Arboretum.
81 percent of area schools met their growth targets on the California state Academic Performance Index (API). However, 35 percent of West San Gabriel Valley schools failed to meet the federal accountability targets determined by Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
