A 13-year-old girl named Susan Wiley was reportedly a prisoner in her home for all of her life until a social worker discovered the child abuse. Susan's parents Clark Wiley and Irene Wiley were arrested. The family home is at 6722 Golden West Avenue, in a county area of Arcadia. Susan Wiley was living in an environment of total isolation and deprivation and was malnourished. She cannot talk, is deformed, barely able to walk and is not toilet trained. Patsy Chang Kote, a live-in housekeeper, was arrested Monday at the Arcadia home of Ruth LeBerthon on suspicion of elder abuse and grand theft after she admitted tricking the 92 year old woman in her care into cashing pension checks and then taking the money.
Police find woman’s body in Arcadia backyard in the 300 block of East Forest Avenue. A 76-year-old Arcadia woman was killed yesterday at her home and her vehicle was stolen. The coroner’s office has not yet identified the woman. Neighbors said she was a longtime resident with two daughters and a grandson. The motive behind the killing is unknown.
Sex therapist Dr. Susan Block is in a zoning fight with Arcadia City. Her building is zoned for office use, not residential, although building license inspectors found 10 bedrooms inside. Dorothy Cunningham, born 1919, is a long-time Arcadia resident. She wrote the social column in the Arcadia Tribune for about 20 years. In this photo, she is probably about age 95. Dorothy was from Whidbey Island, WA and lived in Arcadia for at least 55 years. She worked as a nurse practitioner. Then, she wrote a column for the Arcadia Tribune for 22 years after a council person asked her to write it. She quit the column at age 90.
A 13-year-old female was critically injured after a motorist lost control of a vehicle and struck her in front of Dana Middle School. A surgical team decided to amputate the lower portion of her right leg 5 inches below knee.
Virginia Kay, 92, Pasadena Star-News advice columnist for more than 50 years, died at her Arcadia home. Her real name was Arline Osman-Powers. She is profiled.
Tamara Kato owned the Arcadia franchise of Comfort Keepers, an in-home care service. She celebrated her business' one year anniversary this week. She employed about 30 caregivers that visit and live in clients' homes to help clients enjoy some company and maintain their independence.
