The Arcadia City Council ignored a request from the Arcadia Tax Reform Committee to vote again on taxes approved in June, 1978, following passage of Proposition 13.
The Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education backed the idea of a resolution calling for an immediate halt to aerial spraying of malathion. The board's actions came less than a week after the Arcadia City Council unanimously passed a resolution asking for a halt to the spraying.
There was standing room only at City Council meeting as the request for annexation by residents of an area west of the city was considered. The matter will be brought up again in July after Council has had time to investigate the ramifications.
Former Arcadia Police Chief Charles D. Mitchell died August 2, after a long bout with lung cancer. Mitchell, 53, retired on July 5, 1985, after more than 20 years with the Arcadia Police Department.
Arthur Tucker, former Arcadia school administrator, died September 15 after a long bout with cancer. Tucker served as Principal at Holly Avenue, Highland Oaks and Camino Grove Schools.
Gerald A. Parker, last years's City Employee of the Year, has been appointed director of finance. Parker replaces Alan Murphy, who died earlier this month after a long battle with cancer.
