GPS in bait package leads to arrest of two Canoga Park women who drove through Arcadia in a stolen car. The arrested women are Devon Ricco Menendez and Unique Rios. An activist group called Save the Arcadia Highlands is suing the City of Arcadia over two residential developments that Arcadia City Council approved in February, citing possible violations to "specific provisions of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the California Planning and Zoning Law, filed March 12. Six Arcadia police recruits graduate from Rio Hondo Police Academy. They are pictured with Arcadia Police Chief Bob Guthrie and captains Larry Goodman and Paul Foley. Arcadia firefighter/paramedic Michael Herdman was remembered as a devoted father and animal lover, at a memorial service yesterday, at Arcadia Performing Arts Center. Hundreds attended. Walter R. Hoefflin, former Tournament of Roses president, died February 24 of the complications of old age. He was 87. See also Pasadena Star News, March 1, 2001 p. A4.
Arcadia park goes to the dogs. The 46th annual Bassett Hound Picnic was held at the Arcadia County Park. Picnic featured contests for the saddest face, longest ears, most spots, humorous costume, and crazy hat.
Six candidates vying for two seats on Arcadia City Council in the April 12 all-mail-in ballot. Current Mayor Gary Kovacic is terming out this year and Councilman Mickey Segal is not seeking re-election. Among those running are three former city councilman-- Peter Amundson, Bob Harbicht, and Sheng Chang. Also running are Burton L. Iconic Arcadia Chamber of Commerce building celebrates 50 years on November 12. A 1965 time capsule to be opened with tours of the building remodel. The building is round and all glass.
