Residents of Arcadia, in response to a questionnaire about city services, rated the paramedic service the highest. Second highest rating was earned by the reference department of the library. Of 23,000 questionnaires sent out, 652 were returned. This is considered above average response.

Los Angeles County's unemployment rate rose to 5.5 percent in December 2005, up from 5.1 percent the previous month but down from 6.5 percent a year ago. Arcadia has a 2.7 percent jobless rate.
With a slight increase in unemployment in March, the state of California reached a post-Great Depression jobless rate high of 12.6%. Los Angeles County's unemployment rate remained locked at 12.4% from February to March. Economists say unemployment has hit bottom. The jobless rate in Los Angeles County jumped to 8.4% in October. Countywide, unemployment was up 33,000 in October to 415,000 people. Money from a $19.9 billion statewide transportation bond approved by voters in 2006 is being used for road improvement projects. Arcadia Methodist Hospital has received permission from the city to sell up to $330 million in tax-exempt bonds to fund its expansion project. The money would not be borrowed from voters, as the bonds would be issued through the California Statewide Communities Development Authority.
A $218 million school bond measure will go to voters in November, 2006. The Arcadia Board of Education voted to approve it for the ballot. The money will go to improvements and new facilities at all Arcadia schools.
