The school board discussed the possibility of implementing AIDS education at the 7th grade level. There is currently a 2.5 day session in the 10th grade that discusses the problem.
Richard Dana intermediate school to open doors for first time. It is the second educational plant serving 7th and 8th grades, the other being First Avenue School. Dana's first principal is Joseph Bagnall. The modern school was designed by Boyd Georgi and Lee Kline, the same architects who planned the buildings at Camino Grove Elementary. The Arcadia Unified School District is in the process of selecting an official logo from among 30 entries received from Nancy Cullison's Design Graphics class at Arcadia High School.
Ernie Harrington, principal of Santa Anita Elementary School has retired. He joined the district staff in 1950 as a fourth grade teacher. Santa Anita School will not be opening in the fall.
Results of statewide achievement scores for students in grades 3, 6 and 12 indicate that among area schools, only Arcadia Unified School District students scored above the state average in every area examined.
The Arcadia Unified School District again ranked among the top 10% of statewide districts in the latest California Assessment Program (CAP) results. CAP scores were based on tests given to 3rd and 6th grade students last May in math, reading, and writing as well as tests given to 8th-graders in reading, math, history and science.
Dr. Richard Cordano, Principal of Arcadia High School, has announced that he will take an early retirement effective June 30, 1985. Cordano first came to Arcadia High in 1964 from John Muir High School in Pasadena.

Between August 11 and September 30, the city will install brick sidewalks on Huntington Drive between 2nd Avenue and Santa Clara Street as the first major phase of Arcadia's downtown revitalization project.
Terrance M. Towner, former Pasadena resident and school superintendent in Los Gatos, will be next superintendent for the Arcadia Unified School District. The Arcadia Board of Education selected Towner after a 4-month search. He replaces Stephen Goldstone, who left in September to become superintendent with the Chino Unified School District. Mr. Towner will earn $91,000 per year.
