New El Rancho Building, a 2-story store and office affair, located at 1200 W. Huntington Drive, is nearing completion, with occupancy expected in March. Rancho Santa Anita, Inc. are the owners of the new building. Architect is Rowland H. Crawford.
The Hughes-El Rancho Market is to be razed to make room for the construction of an entirely new building. The new market will be twice the size of the old. Several shops in the center will vacate to make way for the expansion.
Santa Anita Oaks shopping center proposal faces planning commission. The application, filed by National Shopping Centers, Inc., Rosemead, requests zone change at the northwest corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Foothill Boulevard from C-2 and R-O to C-2 and D. See hard copy of newspaper in Box 51.
The City Council unanimously approved a zone change that would prohibit future lot splits in the Lower Rancho Area. The revision increased the minimum lot size from 15,000 to 20,000 square feet.
The Shops at Santa Anita (formerly Westfield Santa Anita mall, changed name in 2022) hosts a holiday winter wonderland with synthetic ice rink, hot cocoa, and face painting, 6-8 PM today. City Attorney Phillips warned residents that raising worms in their backyards would violate two city ordinances: 1. Operating a business in a residential area. 2. Keeping manure in quantities would constitute a nuisance and is prohibited.
Following a 2-year study period and moratorium on adult book stores, the Arcadia Planning Commission accepted a text amendment which zones such business to a narrow slip of land in a bit of industrial area in southeast Arcadia known as Chicago Park.

2024 ELECTIONS - Pasadena City College: Four candidates compete for two Board of Trustee seats on the March 5 election. Voters elect a trustess from each of the seven districts in an area that includes Arcadia, a portion of El Monte, La Canada Flintridge, Pasadena, Rosemead, San Marino, Sierra Madre, South Pasadena, and Temple City. Area 2 candidates are Kevin D. Strotz and James Aragon. Area 6 candidates are Ryan Liu and John Quintanilla.
