The City Council, in emergency session, cancelled its contract with City Refuse Service and awarded an emergency contract for 90 days to Best Disposal Co. of Monrovia.
The Arcadia City Council is continuing negotiations with Group W Cable for an agreement that would supercede the current contract with the firm and give the city more control over the television service.

Fire Chiefs of 19 Foothill cities met this spring and have worked out a strike force plan for more efficient fire fighting. Since the dry conditions make this potentially the worst fire season since 1920, this could mean great savings. A strike force will consist of 5 units directed by a team leader.
Arcadia Methodist Hospital is seeking approval from the California Department of Health for a $15 million building program. Included would be a 3-story addition to house emergency services, remodeling, and a parking structure.

Don Alcorn, a 20-year veteran of the Arcadia Police Department, has been named to the new post of Emergency Services Coordinator by the Arcadia City Council. Local 280 of the Parimutuel Guild of California voted not to strike Santa Anita Park on opening day. The track had made contingency plans in preparation for the threatened strike but the clerks endorsed the proposed contract raising clerks pay at satellite wagering sites.
Charles "Chip" Sturniolo, owner of the Derby restaurant, announced that he is withdrawing from the downtown redevelopment project because the proposed parking structure "just wasn't feasible." The City Council will now reconsider previous plans.
The Arcadia Police Department's non-emergency business telephone numbers have been changed to the following: Front desk, 570-5150; Administrative offices, 574-5178; Investigation division, 574-5160. The change is due to the switch to Pacific Bell Centrex System which gives priority to emergency services in the event of an emergency.
There appears to be some progress in contract negotiations between the Arcadia Unified School District and the Arcadia Teachers Association. Though officials were reluctant to talk about specifics, fear of a strike by the teachers has been allayed.
