Application deadline looms for Arcadia small-business grants totaling $1 million. The applications are due December 29, 2022 and the program is funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The grants can be used for physical improvements to a company's place of business, updating digital marketing and branding and other improvements focused on attracting new customers. Obituary/death notice. Alice Zhang, an Arcadia High School student, was struck and killed by a car driven by a 20 year-old in the 600 block of Duarte Road. Her 16 year-old friend from Upland was seriously injured.
Obituary or death notice. Marine Lance Corporal Kareem Nikoui died among terrorist victims in a two bomb attack outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. He attended Holly Avenue Elementary School and then First Avenue Middle School in Arcadia. He left this district in 7th grade in 2014. See also Pasadena Star News, p. A6, August 30, 2021.

In Loving Memory of Jean Irwin Lewis, Aug. 21, 1914 - Nov. 7, 2006. Jean was born in El Monte, California. She was the school nurse at Rosemead High School for 26 years. After retirement in 1976, Jean enjoyed traveling and her second home in Mexico. She has been active with the Arcadia Senior Friendship Club and the Arcadia Presbyterian Church. Jean always had a zest for living and enjoyed new experiences. Her husband, Jim Lewis, and daughter, Sally Lash, survive her. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, Covina, in her name.
The death of 3-year-old Talmin Moye II, caused by driver Sara Bravo in a stolen car during a police chase, reopens issues of police chase policies. Lieutenant Ken Harper of the Arcadia Police Department said the police officers were justified in pursuing a stolen car.
The death of Sean O'Brien who was killed walking across Campus Drive from the High School, has caused increased concern over the need for greater traffic safety measures in the area.

In Loving Memory of David Saunders II, March 28, 2007 - Aug. 28, 2007. David was born in Illinois, and he moved with family to Arcadia, Ca, where he attended Arcadia Schools. He served in the U.S. Army field artillery from 1944 to 1946. He is predeceased by father, Joseph, mother, Marion, sister Nanette and brother, Joseph. He worked many years at the Zanibar Restaurant in Duarte, Ca. For many years, he was a devotee and friend of Stan Laurel, which brought a tremendous sense of humor to him and his friends. He joined the Motor Yacht Tacinda Jean as steward and traveled across the Atlantic to the Mediterranean and traveled extensively there. Dave returned to So. Ca. to care for his mother and worked at PSA storage until his retirement in Pasadena, Ca. At his request Neptune Society handled the final arrangements. He will be greatly missed by John Haddad, Col. Alan Fox (US Army ret.), Jerry Salthouse, and a multitude of friends.
