The general plan will be reviewed by the Planning Commission. The "central area" will be the focus of study. This area runs from the 210 Foothill freeway on the north to Duarte Road on the south and from the east city boundary to Santa Anita Avenue. It also includes the commercial section west of Santa Anita Avenue and north of Huntington Drive.
A chronology of the city has been developed by the school district's Office of Elementary Instruction utilizing information from the Public Library, the Arboretum and the City Clerk's office. The 35+ page volume will be used by the third and fourth grade classes as they study the community's history.

Ernest Schultz and his twin sisters Freda Schultz and Hilda Schultz, who were residents of early Arcadia and former students of the little school at the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita, reunite and talk about life and schools in the early 1900s, including Arcadia's first school in the old packing house on the Baldwin Ranch. They recalled that the eighth grade teacher Miss Jeanette Said taught in English and Spanish since many students only spoke Spanish. News clipping. A spokesperson for Santa Anita Consolidated has indicated that there is no intention of moving the Santa Anita Park race track to the $100 million sports complex proposed for the City of Los Angeles by Hollywood Park, Inc.
The City Council is considering collecting taxes on free admissions to the Santa Anita Park race track. It would mean considerably greater income for the City.
Arcadia's City Council approved 1979-80 tax rates that are slightly lower than those for the past year. Other action concerned the animal control ordinance, the construction of two classrooms at Barnhart School, and an appeal for funds for Dial-A-Ride.
The California Museum of Science and Industry in Los Angeles has applied for a 2 week fair race meeting, to be held at Santa Anita Park Race Track from September 30 to October 10, 1979.
A continuous left turn lane will be provided in the center of Duarte Road from Lovell Ave. to Baldwin Ave., and directional left turn lights will be installed at the Baldwin and Duarte intersection. This was passed by the Council, requested by the West Arcadia Business and Professional Association.
30 people were injured on opening day at Santa Anita Park when two men became involved in an altercation. One dropped a gun and this was enough to cause a wave of panic which spread through the crowd.
A Bicentennial Park will be dedicated February 17, 1977. Located at the southwest corner of Longden and 6th, the park is 1/2 acre in size. It is the latest of 11 mini parks throughout the city.
A portion of the Eaton's restaurant property on the corner of Colorado and Michillinda has been sold by the Times Mirror Company to Younson Construction, who will build 18 residences on the site.
