Arcadia City Council has authorized the Arcadia Fire Department to spend $184,682 to buy an urban search and rescue truck and $64,408 on 100 ballistic vests for the Arcadia Police Department.

One found dead in apartment fire on Genoa Street near First Avenue on Sunday, April 7. Arcadia police Lieutenant Kollin Cieadlo said there were no signs of foul play so far. Charlie Tuggle, a battalion chief with Arcadia Fire Department estimated damages to the structure at $10,000 and $1,000 to the contents. Arcadia fire Captain Drew Pryor said the call came in at 9:18 P.M. and the bathroom of the apartment was on fire. By 9:37 P.M. the fire was out. The dead man's identity has not been released.

Seven firefighters were injured in Arcadia house fire on White Oak Drive. The Arcadia Fire Department (AFD) required assistance from Monrovia, Sierra Madre, El Monte, and Los Angeles County. Six from AFD were treated at Arcadia Methodist Hospital. The seventh firefighter, from Sierra Madre Fire Department, remained hospitalized in stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital in Pasadena. The house sustained extensive loss. Nearby residents wondered if the AFD needed so much help from outside fire departments because of recent cuts to the AFD.
First building used as City Hall. (The very first City Hall offices were located in the Oakwood Hotel and next in the McCoy Building.) This apparently was known as the A.W. Hibbard Building (see Eberly, p. 69) and was used for only about two years; June 1914 to April 1916. It was on First Street at LaPorte. Sign on left above window reads: Standard Oil Co. Scrip Accepted. Back of photo reads, "first City Hall, 1913, Walter and Nell Schrader. Mr. Schrader converted old City Hall into garage." Suspicious fire on January 1, 2013 engulfed a detached 2-car garage next to a recently vacated single family home in the 200 block of East El Camino Real in Arcadia. The estimated damages are $30,000+. No one was injured.

Police from across Southern California, including Arcadia, are joining Monrovia Police and sheriffs in a task force to try to obliterate street gangs that are committing crimes. This joint task force comes after four people were killed recently in Monrovia. Police suspect Black and Latino gangs of the murders.
Due to heavy smoke from the Williams Fire in the Angeles National Forest, schedules at schools were cut back including the postponement of the tennis and water polo matches at Arcadia High School.
