Altrusa Club of Arcadia celebrated 52 years. Arcadia Mayor John Wuo presented the club with a special commendation from the city for its service to the community.
Arcadia woman was hurt in apartment fire in 900 block of West Huntington Drive on August 7. The 50-something year old woman was taken to Arcadia Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
Upscale H Mart Supermarket to have grand opening in Arcadia December 8. H Mart serves both traditional Asian and international food. It is over 40,000 square feet of retail space at 1101 West Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA, on the site of a former Ralphs Supermarket.
Arcadia Vietnam War Monument placed in Arcadia County Park. It is 22,000 pounds. From 1966-1972, 14 U.S. servicemen from Arcadia became casualties of the war in Vietnam. City gives thumbs up for Arroyo Pacific Academy's expansion. It is a private college preparatory high school for local and international students. it is currently at 41 West Santa Clara Street.
Pink wall paints awareness for breast cancer at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. Lanora Khoe of Arcadia is one of the painters and participants. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Echoes of hoofbeats: Thoroughbred Racing Walk of Champions to honor history of horse racing on September 27 at its grand opening at Huntington Drive and First Avenue in Arcadia. Sandy Snider and Gail Marshall, the masterminds behind the bronze sidewalk plaques, gave a talk at the new Arcadia Museum Education Center. See hard copy in VF Historical Society.
Three women were violently robbed in a span of a week in the 99 Ranch Market parking lot at 1300 S. Golden West Avenue. In two of the incidents, a passenger leaned out of a car to grab purses, and in the other incident, two men pushed a woman to the ground, kicked her in the face and stole her purse.
Arcadia Rotary uneils monument to Veterans at Arcadia Community Center. Funds to build it came from Arcadia Field of Honor (temporary flags at Arcadia County Park) put on by Arcadia Rotary Club, a generous gift from Mary E. Hansen, as well as funds from Santa Anita Park Race Track. The monument consists of seven pillars of granite, each dedicated to the various branches of service: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines.
Arcadia Woman's Club hosted its annual appreciation luncheon for Arcadia's first responders from the Arcadia Police Department and Arcadia Fire Department. About 80 members of APD and AFD attended.
San Gabriel Valley women make their mark at 2017 Solheim Cup, played at The Des Moines Country Club. It was a golf competition of the best American female golfers. Angel Yin of Arcadia competed.
