Pat and Paul Leone, who complained to Arcadia City Council about the noise generated by Dial-A-Ride, took their complaint to Temple City Council. Arcadia owns the vehicles but the operator, San Gabriel Transit, is a commercial business in a commercial zone and cannot be forced to leave.
Arcadian Bob Knox has been scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 5 for 18 years. He has been awarded the "Good Scout Award" by the San Gabriel Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America.
Arcadia teachers picketed the open house at Arcadia High School to protest the 1978-79 raise offered by the Arcadia Board of Education. The teachers claim they received a 3.5% salary adjustment (vs. the average San Gabriel Valley increase of 5.5%) while the Board claims a 5% increase retroactive to December 1, 1978.
Arcadia, along with several other communities in the San Gabriel Valley, face termination of animal control services now rendered by the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society. This agency will discontinue services as of June 30, 1978.
A meeting has been set for October 1 for a committee to report to the entire Association on the feasibility of seceding from Los Angeles County. What happens here may well determine the future course of events in the San Gabriel Valley.
