Arcadia High School is instituting two P. E. classes for handicapped youngsters this fall. A survey showed the need, so a program has been worked out which will be titled Adaptive P. E. and is designed to strengthen and condition those students.
There has been some hassle over the lack of restroom facilities at Fashion Park. The City Council would like to see 2 restrooms on each level open at all times. Stores make their restrooms available, but some events take place when the stores are closed.
Shareholders have approved a merger of Knight Newspapers Inc. and Ridder Publications. The new firm will be Knight-Ridder Newspapers, Inc. with 35 dailies. Background and financial structure of the firms given in some detail.
A public hearing to air teachers' contract proposals was well attended by an angry public. Some expressed the view that teachers were out to get everything they can.

Arcadia Police Department has received a grant of $142,286 to set up a trial traffic safety program. It is enough to purchase one extra car and pay the salaries of three policemen who have indicated an interest. The goal is to reduce personal injury and fatal traffic collisions by 3% each year.
Five tennis courts have been proposed for the top of two water reservoirs at the corner of Baldwin and Orange Grove. The Parks and Recreation Department has set aside $25,000 for the project. The City Council must approve.
District-wide test scores show Arcadia remains high in test results, though some Board of Education members are concerned about a drop in spelling scores for the 6th and 12th grades.
30 people were injured on opening day at Santa Anita Park when two men became involved in an altercation. One dropped a gun and this was enough to cause a wave of panic which spread through the crowd.
Supervisor Schabarum joined with two other board members asking Assessor Alexander Pope to mail out property tax re-evaluation notices immediately so people will know before June 6 primary and they vote on Propositions 13 and 8.
