Ernest Schultz and his twin sisters Freda Schultz and Hilda Schultz, who were residents of early Arcadia and former students of the little school at the corner of Huntington Drive and Santa Anita, reunite and talk about life and schools in the early 1900s, including Arcadia's first school in the old packing house on the Baldwin Ranch. Crime statistics for the first half of 1979 show a 4.6% overall increase in crime in Arcadia, despite a decrease in the number of violent crimes. This compares to an overall increase of 5.2% for the larger San Gabriel area.
The Methodist Hospital has inaugurated a three months seminary internship under Chaplain Paul Johenk. The purpose is to teach methods of hospital calling and pastoral counseling with patients and families going through a medical crisis.
A proposed ranch house called a "a monstrosity" by one Arcadia neighbor and a "a hay barn" by another will not be built, the Arcadia City Council decided. The 2-story house with a 3-car garage attached was proposed for the lot at 400 Columbia Road.

The American Indian will be spotlighted on three floats in this year's Tournament of Roses Parade. Farmers Insurance Group's float will depict an Indian on horseback. Arcadia's float theme is "The First Americans" and the County of Los Angeles' float theme is "The Proud American."
