The Disaster Preparedness Plan is ready for adoption by the City Council. It includes contingency plans for the handling of earthquakes (as well as recommendations for building standards to help present earthquake damage), floods, fires and hazardous structures.
The Planning Commission is endeavoring to make Arcadia's General Plan more flexible and more consistent with zoning regulations. The Commission will submit its changes to the City Council for final approval.
Don Alcorn, a 20-year veteran of the Arcadia Police Department, has been named to the new post of Emergency Services Coordinator by the Arcadia City Council. Alcorn's job is to prepare an emergency plan that will cover any aspect of any possible disaster, from earthquake to fire to nuclear disaster.
The Planning Commission will ask the City Attorney whether or not they have the power to turn down a developer even though his plans meet all requirements.
The Arcadia City Council has approved a design review process for the upcoming addition to the Santa Anita Park race track. The procedure adopted requires review by the Planning Commission and the City Council of all preliminary site plans, floor plans, exterior architectural improvements, and new construction.

After presentations by 3 architectural firms Tuesday night, the Arcadia City Council voted 4-1 to ask one of the companies back for further discussion on doing a master plan for the city's proposed civic center project. The proposed center would probably be located on the Huntington Drive median where the city hall and police station are now located. Mayor David Hannah indicated that this could be a long-term project, perhaps lasting as long as 20 years.
City department heads gathered for a 3-day workshop to study City Council's goals and objectives for 1993, including planning for state revenue cutbacks, fire and library building construction and promotion of economic development.
Arcadia Planning Department recently gave its proposal to Planning Commission for possible ordinance permitting a second unit to be built on a single-family dwelling.
