A new street in Honolulu, Hawaii, has been named Asher Court after Arcadia resident and World War II Veteran Fred Asher who saved the USS Blue at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
The City Council approved two towers to be built along the front facade of the grandstand at Santa Anita Park to provide for the circulation of people going to the new Frontrunner restaurant.
The boundaries for the 6 elementary and 3 middle schools are going to be changed so that enrollments at each of the schools are more balanced. About 300 of the district's 6000 students will be affected by the changes.

A unanimous City Council adopted a "conservative" $42.5 million 1990-91 budget after fine-tuning some expenditures to the Chamber of Commerce and the workers' compensation program. The city has $33.8 million in reserves going into the 1990-91 fiscal year, and expects another $42.6 million in revenues.
In 1993 the Arcadia City Council and the Redevelopment Agency implemented the Comprehensive Revitalization Strategy Program designed to bring new economic developments to the downtown district. The streetscape construction project has been completed and the revitalization is on-going with the Commercial Facade Rehabilitation Program (CFRP) providing financial assistance for storefront improvements.
