The Arcadia Public Library has joined the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System. Library users will have access to MCLS libraries, SCAN (Southern California Answering Network at Los Angeles Public Library) and SCILL (Southern California Interlibrary Loan Network).
Biographical profile of Helen Lawrence, who retired May 1977 from the Arcadia Public Library after almost 21 years, the last 10 of which were as head of the Circulation Department.
Grace Clark has retired after more than 21 years with the Arcadia Public Library. She was City Librarian for a number of years and has been head of the Technical Services Department for the past 15 years.
The Children's Room will be completely refurbished - partly with city funds and partly from a drive headed by Mayor Charles Gilb. It will be renamed the Jerry Broadwell Children's Library as a memorial to Fire Captain Jerry Broadwell who died in a fire in August 1975.
A final tentative budget for the 1978-79 school year has been adopted by the Arcadia Board of Education. The final figure was set at $15.4 million, but will probably be revised as state formulas affect the budget during the year.
Arcadia Friends of Library Plan Something New. Summary of the organization, its history and the services it has provided (Twice Sold Tales book sales and print sales). Gifts presented to the Arcadia Library include opaque overhead projector and headsets (headphones) to listen to records in the children's room. See hard copy in VF Friends of the Library, item 20.
Arcadia Finance Director, Charles Reiman, announced a 10.2% increase in the operating budget of the city of Arcadia for 1979-80. This was the first of 2 public hearings on the budget.
Approximately 110 slides depicting Arcadia's history have been made into a slide show and are now available to check out along with a written narration.
A U.S. government depository is now being readied for Arcadians. A representative collection appropriate for this community will be selected out of the approximately 22,000 items available.
