World War II pilot Walter "Pat" Hollywood, a longtime Arcadia resident, celebrated Veterans Day and his 90th birthday yesterday. He was born in Pasadena in 1919 and served as an Army C-46 Commando pilot during World War II. He works out at the Fortanesce and Associates Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Center in Arcadia and walks for an hour at the Los Angeles County Arboretum every day.

George Torres, of Arcadia, was convicted of 55 felony counts, including racketeering, "honest services" mail fraud, and wire fraud, conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants and tax charges. The jury also found that Torres solicited the 1994 murder of a gang member who demanded a "tax" from a Numero Uno Market. George Torres owned eleven Numero Uno grocery stores in some of the region's poorest neighborhoods.
Former Arcadia mayor George Fasching has been named to a 12-member committee to oversee the spending of up to $150 million in bond money at Pasadena City College.

Ricardo Preciado, son of Arcadia resident Esther Preciado, along with Kenneth Bruce, was killed on December 10, 2001 in a hit-and-run crash. The truck driver, George Hoelker, was given a light sentence and the families are angered.
Obituary / death notice. James C. Lesperance, died January 20, 2006 at the age of 74. He was a long-time resident of Arcadia until retiring to Mammoth Lakes. Jim is survived by his wife Marylin, their children Laura, Jim, Doug (d), Renee, Corinne, and Jeff, eight grandchildren and four stepchildren. Services will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 5605 Cloverly Avenue, Temple City, on Saturday, January 28, at 12:00 p.m.
At the recent Bravo Society Dinner, held to recognize major supporters of California Philharmonic Orchestra, George Fasching of Arcadia was given the Crystal Vision Award. This award is given to an individual whose vision and actions demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to Cal Phil.
George Schwary's horse Georgie Boy and jockey Garrett Gomez won the $150,000 Grade II San Carlos Handicap at Santa Anita Park. Georgie Boy was trained by Kathy Walsh. Georgie Boy won last month's Sunshine Millions Spring.
George Fasching, shown in a photo, is no longer selling gas at Fasching's Car Wash in Arcadia because he is unwilling to comply with a state mandate, effective April 1, 2009, that requires gas station owners to purchase new equipment to reduce vapor emissions at the pump.
