Arcadia's historic Derby Restaurant may be relocated. A mixed-use project may take the place of The Derby and Embassy Suites at 211 East Huntington Drive - 233 East Huntington Drive. Local historian Sandy Snider expressed concern that the 99 year-old building may end up being razed. George Woolf bought the Derby in 1938, originally named Proctor Tavern when it operated in 1922. John Pomazi of Temple City owns a business called Antique Radios at 125 E. Santa Clara Street in Arcadia. He collects and repair antique radios. He may have the only business of this kind in the San Gabriel Valley.
No rest for the weary. Inundated with COVID-19 patients and short on staff and supplies, Arcadia Methodist Hospital faces its toughest test. They may have to choose which patients will receive care if the situation gets any worse. The California Department of Public Health has sent 13 nurses to support the hospital, says spokesperson Cliff Daniels.
The Westfield Santa Anita mall will be adding new tenants and is expected to submit plans for a new anchor store. Red Robin restaurant is scheduled to open in the open-air Promenade section by the end of the year. Forever 21 may move into the Robinsons May space and Target may be an anchor store.
Arcadia welcomes the 49th Pasadena Showcase House of Design. The house will be a 1941 Monterey Colonial house designed by renowned architect Roland E. Coate. It will be renovated by Southern California's prominent interior and exterior designers and will open for public tours April 21-May 19, 2013. The showcase house is a fundraiser that supports bringing music and art programs to children.
Based on the description and surveillance video, Arcadia police believe the same man may have robbed two 7-Eleven stores this month. The most recent robbery took place on May 20 at the 7-Eleven at Live Oak and Tyler Avenues. The previous crime occurred on May 10 at the 7-Eleven at 1003 S. Baldwin Avenue in Arcadia.
Arcadia Announces Limited Reopening of City Facilities by Appointment. The City of Arcadia is reopening City Hall to the public for services by appointment only for essential activities in response to the revised Safer at Home Order issued by Los Angeles County on May 13, 2020. These include building permits, inspections, and planning related services. Tennis courts are now open for modified use. All players must abide by posted rules and those who ignore the guidelines will not be allowed to play.
State official views damage caused by last week's windstorm. California Emergency Management Agency's acting secretary Mike J. E. Dayton toured 8 San Gabriel Valley cities that were hardest hit, including Altadena, Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Temple City, San Gabriel and Alhambra, to assess the damage. He will determine whether state or federal assistance may be applicable.
