The Arcadia Redevelopment Agency announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement to build a 122-room hotel in East Arcadia. The deal with ESA Management, the parent company of Extended Stay America, calls for an expected completion date by mid-1998.
Ruth Lubin, 82, a retired Arcadia High School teacher, beat out 12 other contestants to win the 7th annual Ms. Senior America of California competition. She will soon go the Reno, Nevada, to vie for the Ms. Senior America crown.
Sports Channel America has offered Bob Wieland a chance to host his own cable talk show, in which he will present motivational stories about athletes, who, like himself, have beaten the odds. The 45 year old Arcadia resident lost his legs in the Vietnam War.
Dale Allen, 72, has been named Arcadia Senior Citizen of the Year for 1990. He has helped to fight for and plan the $4.4 million senior center that will be completed next spring.
Rosalie Dunham, who moved to Arcadia 10 year ago, is the Senior Citizen of the Year. After the death of her husband 8 years ago, she and her friend Marilyn Morrison began Starting Over, a group for people who have suffered a loss. She also started a follow-up group called Branching Out.
Jim Hauser, a 40-year resident who is active in the Arcadia Red Cross, Arcadia Historical Society, and the Rotary Club, was named Senior Citizen of the Year.
