Gerry Woods, who is in the process of recovering from an almost fatal gunshot wound to the head last year, went in a wheel chair to receive his certificate of graduation from Foothills Junior High School.
Vision21, an art portfolio and college preparatory school, has locations in Arcadia, Buena Park, Cerritos, Diamond Bar, La Crescenta and Los Angeles. The school offers classes in advertising, architecture, animation, digital media, fashion design, fine arts, film, illustration, photography, product and transportation design. Vision21 was founded in 1999 by Angie Kim, a graduate of Otis College of Art and Design. Daniel Cho is Kim's son and executive vice president. Classes are for elementary-aged students up to adults.
Susan Robertson, 48, a 4th grade teacher at Hugo Reid School for 26 years, died on July 4 after an 11-year battle with cancer. Mrs. Robertson graduated from USC in 1963 and worked for the Arcadia Unified School District, teaching at Hugo Reid School for her entire career.
Maria Sanchez, a UCLA graduate who went to school in Arcadia, Sierra Madre, and Temple City, is now a member of the select group of British Marshall Scholarship winners. She is profiled.
Since October 1975 a committee of citizens, teachers and
administrators have been studying requirements for graduation from high school. They recommend raising the units needed to graduate from 160 to 170. The School Board will vote on this proposal on April 14.
Clean of drugs for nearly 2 1/2 years, April Hubert will graduate from Arcadia High School. After a bout of drug use and behavior problems, she now looks to the future.
Kate Linder, an actress on television soap opera The Young and the Restless, got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was raised in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School. Her parents are Ralph and Molly Wolveck. She also keeps a job as a flight attendant.
A White House Commission has selected 16 year old Arcadia resident Eugenia Kim as one of 500 finalists in the U. S. Presidential Scholar Program, "the nation's highest honor for high school students."
Cara Yehle, 18, a 1992 graduate of Arcadia High School, died from and acute allergic reaction to chicken marinated in peanut sauce which she ate at a reggae concert at the Greek Theater on May 31st.
