This week's San Gabriel Valley high school baseball rankings have Arcadia High School in first place. The Arcadia High School Apaches are 8-0 in the Pacific League.
The Assistance League of Arcadia is sponsoring "Operation School Bell," a project which provides over 900 needy San Gabriel Valley children with new shoes, socks, underwear, sweatshirts, and 2 complete outfits each year.
With 20 cities represented, a resolution was passed November 13, 1975 to form an Association of San Gabriel Valley Cities. Thirteen cities have given firm approval. The purpose: cooperation and unity for impact.
Arcadia High School requests move to Rio Hondo League, although its first preference is to keep the Pacific League as is. The changes would go into effect for the 2014-2015 school year. Arcadia High School's request to leave Pacific League is contingent upon Crescenta Valley High School joining the Rio Hondo League, which is currently made up of Blair, La Canada, Monrovia, San Marino, South Pasadena, and Temple City High Schools. The Pacific League is made up of Arcadia High School, Burbank, Burroughs, Crescenta Valley, Glendale, Hoover, Muir, and Pasadena.
Jim Helms chosen President of the Association of San Gabriel Valley Cities. Cities which have confirmed membership are: Alhambra, Arcadia, Covina, El Monte, Irwindale, La Puente, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Marino, South Pasadena, Temple City, and Walnut.
Plans have been made to form an Association of San Gabriel Valley Cities. The banding together is a preliminary step to give strength to a move to secede from Los Angeles County.
A special supplement, "Hi Neighbor . . . A Guide to Living in the San Gabriel Valley," offers information on the organization, services, entertainment, shopping, etc. of various cities in the area, including Arcadia.
Seven San Gabriel Valley police departments have started a new program that will coordinate efforts to trace criminals who do not limit their activities to one city. Hopefully this will avoid duplication of effort by the various cities.

The Association will prepare a profile of the San Gabriel Valley within the coming month. A second project will be to organize themselves to deal with the "incoherence of Los Angeles County government."
The Association is asking the Los Angeles Division of the League of California Cities to back a resolution calling for a state wide study of urban-county reform.
The Assistance League of Arcadia will have teams of puppeteers that use the Japanese "bunraku" technique perform at local elementary schools this fall, addressing divorce, physical abuse and cultural differences.
A committee headed by Irene Burkner has done an update of a study made ten years ago by the Arcadia League of Women Voters on local public school education. The recent study, which was presented to the Board of Education, attempts to reconcile the League's desire for the best possible education with the current financial situation. The article discusses the two studies.
Los Angeles County home sales rise slightly in November. Locally, 13 San Gabriel Valley cities saw their median home prices decline in November, while 11 communities posted increases. Arcadia ranked among the 10 California cities with the highest median home prices in November, according to the California Association of Realtors (CAR).
